Nailed It :Essie Sleek Stick Nail Stickers
Confession? I’ve never tried wearing nail stickers. *Gasp* I know I know. How not modern of me. Many times I’ve seen them on the shelf at drug stores or Sephora and have even seen my friends sporting them, yet I still hadn’t taken the nail sticker plunge. Could applying them really be easier than polish? Is the adhesive so strong that they aren’t going to be peeling off immediately? I wasn’t convinced.
Essie Sleek Sticks Nail Stickers have certainly proved me wrong and thus I’m left having to admit that I’ve been a spoil sport. How lame of me! I promise friends, no more of that in 2013. The recently released Sleek Sticks have a colour and/or print to suit all nail tastes and with names like “So Haute!,” “Don’t Cheetah On Me” and “Glam It On” don’t even bother trying to resist. They’re far too fun for that. And when applied properly the sticker designs can last for up to 14 days without degrading. I don’t know about you but my nail polish certainly chips a lot quicker than that.
It hasn’t been two weeks for the set that I applied but so far so good! The best part? The application process was actually quite easy —something I wasn’t expecting. To be honest, I was quite shocked that I got it right the first time. Yay me! Want some tips and tricks? Follow along below to see my step by step process.
First things first, prep your nails as you would when preparing to polish them. For me that means trimming, oiling my cuticles, pushing my cuticles back and filing and buffing my nails. Next, select the correct size nail sticker strip for each nail making sure to note cuticle shape along with nail width. My Sleek Stick of choice? Oh My Gold!.
Step 1
Peel away the nail strip from the protective film that corresponds with the nail you’re beginning with. Best to work one nail at a time when working with stickers. Press firmly on to the nail to ensure it adheres. When preparing to file, I found that bending the excess helped to create a guide for the nail file. *Tip: If you’re a rookie like me, Essie recommends you begin with you pinky finger because smaller nails are easier to conquer.
Step 2
Gently file off the sticker excess following the guide you created for yourself in Step 1. Pictured left, you’ll see that once your start to file it’ll easily rip off along the guideline. You’ll also notice that once removed the edges are still a little rough so I gently filed around the tip of the nail in order to make everything smooth.
Step 3
Apply a quick-drying top coat to the now finished nail. I highly recommend this step. The nail stickers do strongly adhere to your nails but I found adding the topcoat not only increases shine but helps to ensure the stickers stay put for as long as possible.
Repeat Steps 1-3 on all nails.
Step 4
The finished product! My Oh My Gold! nails look oh my god awesome. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the end result. *Tip: For even more fun, If you choose a nail sticker that has a clear base shade (like my choice) try painting your nails a vibrant colour first and then add the stickers. It’ll really make the print pop.
If you haven’t tried a nail sticker before I hope I’ve given you hope that you too can partake in this fun trend. It really was as simple as 1, 2, 3! If you’re in Canada, pick up a set of Essie Sleek Stick Nail Stickers at Shoppers Drug Mart or Walmart.
