Canadian Stage Theatre Ball

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending the annual Canadian Stage Theatre Ball, which this year celebrated their 25th birthday. I feel so lucky and honoured to have been present and am beaming with pride for my husband (Scott Newlands Creative) who was the graphic design sponsor for the event. In other words, he developed the branding for the the evening, keeping it in the birthday theme. I may be biased, but the birthday logo is brilliant to me. A martini glass with a sparkler as the “Y” in “Happy”? AMAZING! Hats off to you hubby. In all honesty, I’m so proud. From the ice sculpture to the programs, to the graphic printed white chocolate on top of the individually sized birthday cakes (yum!), it was brilliantly designed and truly a night to remember that we were lucky enough to share with some of our closest friends.

These days, how often do you get the opportunity to dress to the nines with your best friends and get all dolled up? For me, it’s not often. Once you’re married, the getting fancied up occasions are few and far in between so some of my ladies and I decided to make this the most glorious girlie day to beat all girlie days. Any excuse to get your hair and makeup done, right?!?

After an early morning mani/pedi, we checked into my hotel room early to get our hair and makeup party on with the insanely talented hair and makeup artist Victoria Klingenstierna. Believe me when I say that Victoria, in my opinion, is one of the best I’ve stumbled upon since living in Toronto. As someone who loves to do their own makeup and thus doesn’t often relinquish that control to anyone, this is the most genuine of genuine statements. She’s sweet, funny and can sling a curling iron/makeup brush like nobodies business and I couldn’t heart her and her talents more.

My friends opted for smoldering smokey eyes with perfectly pink lips, which might I add caught Canadian actress/comedian Caroline Rhea’s attention as she was all compliments to my friend Kendra in the women’s washroom—the place where women unite to wash (pun intended) admiration upon one another while touching up their lipstick. I opted for neutral makeup in order to let my matte red lipstick (Ruby Woo, Mac Cosmetics) make the statement. I love classic old hollywood glamour and thus that was the inspiration behind my look for the evening.

It was a perfect day filled with quality time with our friends, a delicious meal, sweet sweet dance moves (courtesy of Adam Fraser) and did I mention we hung out with Jason Priestley? Yep! That’s right. Brandon Walsh himself was there in all his 90210 glory and at one point even had his arm around me. No big deal… In short, a big thanks to Canadian Stage for an amazing, memorable party.
