The Best Fashion at the 2013 Golden Globes
It’s my favourite fashionable time of year. Awards season! Like it or lump it, I’m all about promoting the hits, not the misses. Let’s not put unnecessary negativity out there, shall we? When watching the red carpet program before the awards I’m like a kid in a candy store. The fabrics, the colour (or lack there of), the silhouettes and even the shoes! I can’t get enough. And let’s not forget the dapper gentlemen all suited up in their Sunday best. Jon Hamm anybody? Is it getting hot in here?
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards were no exception. Surprisingly, the red carpet was a sea of black and white or nude tones. Sure, there were pops of colour here and there but overall celebs were keeping it simple and real in the classics. Let’s face it, black can do no wrong. It looks good on everyone no matter the shape or size. In fact, I’m going to a fancy gala in March and it may just be my go to colour as well.
I can’t even express my excitement for Lena Dunham (pictured left with her Girls co-stars Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet), creator and star of the HBO comedy Girls, for her double win—Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series or Musical and Best Comedy Series. I recently became addicted to this gritty, raunchy, New York City based show and have a funny feeling its ratings are going to be receiving a massive spike in the coming weeks as Season 2 premiered last night. She defies the leading lady stereotype. She’s not a size zero, she’s beautiful in her own right and she’s not ashamed to be herself despite people in the media *cough Howard Stern cough* calling her a “little fat chick.” Who’s laughing now Stern? We are. At your ignorance.
Who are they wearing? Let me tell you! Though others aren’t as fond of Lena’s plum Zac Posen gown, I think she looks everything a leading lady should be— stunning! Her co-stars look equally glamorous, Allison Williams in a black gown by J Mendel and Zosia Mamet also rocking black in a Tony Ward dress.
Who wore some of the other show stoppers? Where do I begin! Jennifer Lawrence won big taking home the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and her perfect shade of red Dior Haute Couture gown definitely fit the bill of a winner. I’ve yet to see this movie but it’s been high on my list of movie to do’s. Bradley Cooper alone… I’m there!
Lady Mary, I mean Michelle Dockery, of Downton Abbey may not have taken home the globe for Best Actress in a TV Series Drama, but she definitely wowed the crowd and secured her place on the best dressed list in her very royal white and gold Alexandre Vauthier ensemble. Not only did it suit Michelle, but it also suited her character Lady Mary Crawley. Me thinks this was or wasn’t a genius coincidence? Who’s to know!
There were far too many amazing gowns to choose from but I narrowed it down as best I could. Check out my gallery below for more of the best dressed of the evening.
