There’s no right or wrong way to achieve a flawless face, but if you’re feeling lost and in need of some guidance or are in a skincare rut, sit back and follow my 3 steps to putting your face first featuring some of my go to beauty products.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, proper skincare is a non-negotiable for a flawless complexion. It’s been a top priority since I was a teenager, but now that I’m 30 and am proactive in terms of anti-aging it’s of the utmost importance to avoid poor skincare habits like going to bed without removing your makeup. Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser has been in my regimen on and off for more years than I can count, and paired with my Clarisonic Mia Cleansing System my pores are effortlessly cleared of any build up and pollutants. Follow up cleansing with a toner like Fresh Rose Floral Toner because cleansing with a system like Clarisonic’s Mia opens and cleans out pores, while toner cleans and closes them up.

- Clarisonic Mia 2 Cleansing System, $180
- Fresh Rose Floral, $45
Now that you’ve sufficiently removed impurities, you also removed any and all signs of moisture left in your skin so it’s time to replenish. I can’t stress enough the importance of a great moisturizer and its handy companions like serum and eye cream. Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Serum, Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Moisturizer (day & night) and new Clinique Superdefense Age Defense Eye Cream come highly recommended, but Clinique also boasts a wide range of products suitable for a variety of skin types. Just make sure you pick products with an SPF of 15 or higher for additional coverage.
- Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Serum, $59
- Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Moisturizer, $62
- Clinique Superdefense Age Defense Eye Cream, $39.50
Great looking makeup starts with great skin, but now that we’ve got that covered let’s move to the fun stuff. Make Up For Ever’s cutting edge formulas cannot be beat, in my opinion. Last year I fell in love with their Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation (seen here) and I’ve never looked back. The beauty of their products is they work together seamlessly to achieve a smooth, fresh looking complexion, yet can also be used stand alone. My latest obsession is their new HD Pressed Powder compact (available at Sephora), a colourless finishing powder to be applied over foundation or worn alone. Blended with three high-tech ingredients (synthetic mica, silicone powders and silica), products in their HD range are designed to create flawless makeup that is invisible to both high definition cameras and the naked eye. The moment I tried this powder I was hooked. It’s lightweight, silky and I was blown away by its ability to minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections. Use in conjunction with primer, concealer and foundation or on its own for those days when a full face of makeup isn’t necessary. It might just change your makeup routine— it has mine.
- Make Up For Ever HD Primer, $39
- Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer, $37
- Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation, $42
- Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder, $41
