Cue Lady Gaga! I love my boys. All the boys in my life. Who am I partial to? My husband, obviously. But also my gay husband. That’s right, my gay husband. He’s been with me through the thick of it. He’s been there for the ups, the downs, the laughs, the tears and let’s not forget the shopping. He was there long before I met the man I married and was one of the first people I went to when I met who I thought might be my other “one” (my gay husband being my first love). He’s smart, funny, has great taste and is one of the few people in my life that I know would drop everything if I really needed him. He’s the best and I’m lucky to have him.

I’m privileged to live in a country that recognizes my gay husbands future marriage to his other “one.” Because I love him so much it’s something I’m extremely thankful for and passionate about. He deserves everything I have and more especially when it comes to human rights. Love is love. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to wrap my head around the opinions of those who disagree with me. In a world that has advanced so much in so many ways (hello, the iPad mini? nuff said) it’s still so backward on issues that are far more important.

My dream? That one day marriage will be about uniting two people in love no matter the sexual preference and that we all are given the same spousal rights. But if I’m in a world where my dreams come true then I’ll also wish universal acceptance of this right. As someone who’s over-protective of her gay husband, wouldn’t it be an amazing thing to not have to worry so much about those cruel bigots we know are out there? I think so. I’m optimistic for change and can only hope it happens in my lifetime.

It’s funny what can inspire a post. Yesterday I saw one of the most hilarious web videos I’ve seen in a long time. It’s clever and funny and bang on! I immediately knew I wanted to post it on my blog and talk about it. Initially my post was going to be more light-hearted but when you love someone and are passionate about the issue then one must speak from the heart. It’s posted below. Please watch and enjoy. I love that they’re taking a serious issue and bringing it to the forefront in a humourous way that everyone can appreciate. Well done boys!

Gay husband, you know who you are. I love you and I know your Prince is waiting. Let’s count our blessings that our country grants you the legal rights you deserve and that one day you’ll be making the most of those rights with the man of your dreams. Until then I’m here always.
